Now at Gearhead Curios – Route 66 Roadscapes Finds a Fitting Home
Galena, Kansas – Where the Road Still Rumbles with Soul
There’s something about Gearhead Curios in Galena, Kansas that instantly takes you back. Maybe it’s the gleaming Texaco star overhead, the rusted relics with stories to tell, or the way the building itself adds charm and nostalgia to the all-American Route 66 town. .
Tucked in the southeast corner of Kansas, Galena is one of Route 66’s best-kept secrets—and Gearhead Curios is its beating heart. Classic car enthusiasts already know the spot well: a lovingly restored 1939 Texaco service station that now overflows with vintage signage, road-worn treasures, and pure Americana spirit. The shop offers unique classic automobile oriented Route 66 memorabilia and souvenirs, and boasts the most creative gas station and classic car-themed rest room. I cannot do it justice in my writing— you'll need to visit and immerse yourself in the rockabilly old-school gas station setting!
It’s also the newest stop to carry my book, Route 66 Roadscapes. I’m proud to announce that signed copies are now available exclusively at Gearhead Curios—for now, it’s the only in-store location along the Route carrying it.
Meeting Aaron Perry, the owner and keeper of this roadside time machine, was a reminder of why I created the book in the first place—to honor places like this. He’s poured his soul into making Gearhead Curios a destination, not just a detour. You feel it the second you pull up.
