Route 66 Roadscapes- 6 month progress report-
It’s been six months since Route 66 Roadscapes hit the road, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect, share a little behind-the-scenes, and say thanks to those who’ve come along for the ride. Let’s just say — the road to self-publishing wasn’t without a few potholes.
I started off dealing with a print quality debacle that nearly derailed the whole project. Finding BookBaby as my print partner was the turning point. It marked my first time going fully independent — no full-service publisher, no team handling marketing (except Amazon distribution and print on demand) or distribution. Just me, figuring it out as I go.
It’s been challenging, sure. But also rewarding in ways I didn’t expect.
In the last six months, I’ve had the opportunity to:
- Appear at live events where I give entertaining and inspiring talks — and connect with readers in person.
- Be a guest on several podcasts, sharing stories from the road and insights into the creative process.
- Keep the book stocked at Gearhead Curios in Galena, Kansas — right on Route 66.
The feedback has been encouraging — readers appreciate the print quality, the manageable 8.5” square format, and the way the book captures the spirit of the journey. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay. It’s a book that shares my vision of Route 66: a mix of neon, decay, solitude, and moments of pure Americana.
If you’ve picked up a copy, shared a kind word, or shown up at one of my events — thank you. I’m proud of how far this book has come, and I’m just getting started. See you down the road.
