Jack Rabbit Trading Post- Route 66 attraction spotlight-

I’m pleased to feature an interview with Tony and Cindy Jaquez, owners of the legendary Jack Rabbit Trading Post in Joseph City, Arizona—an iconic stop along historic Route 66 since 1949. Many travelers recognize it instantly by the famous yellow “Here It Is” sign featuring the jackrabbit, a true roadside symbol of Americana.

The Trading Post offers a wide variety of Route 66 souvenirs, curios, crafts, and road trip essentials. Tony and Cindy take pride in offering locally made products and as many American-made goods as possible. Their passion for preserving the spirit of Route 66 shows in every detail—from their community involvement to the ongoing upkeep of the beloved jackrabbit sign, which takes a beating under the relentless Arizona sun. Their deep respect for history and nostalgia fuels their commitment to keeping this classic roadside stop relevant and welcoming for generations of travelers.

1. For travelers who haven’t yet stopped at the Jack Rabbit Trading Post, how would you describe your shop and what makes it special?

“The Jack Rabbit Trading Post has been a Route 66 staple for 76 years. We’re a classic roadside stop full of Arizona and Route 66 souvenirs—everything from stickers and magnets to T-shirts and quirky finds. It’s a true slice of Americana, and there’s something here for every traveler.”

2. What would you most like future Route 66 travelers to know—whether it’s an invitation, a tip, or even a brutally honest reality check?

“Route 66 is all about the history. Every stop has a story, and it’s the collection of those experiences that makes your road trip unforgettable. Take the time to explore and connect—it’s what the road is all about.”

3. How has the Jack Rabbit supported or collaborated with local artists, makers, or creatives over the years?

“Tony and I do our best to support Route 66 businesses—we really see it as a big family. We’re all in this together, helping keep the spirit of the road alive.”

4. Route 66 is full of nostalgia, but it also requires grit to keep a roadside business going. What keeps you going year after year?

“Without a doubt—it’s the people. We’ve met folks from all over the world, and many return year after year. Some make us part of their family traditions. Others become lifelong friends. That connection is what keeps us going.”
