Coffee table books are, by nature, an investment. I’m not here to justify the price, try to change anyone’s mind, or complain about what it costs me to produce one. What I will say is this: with the determination it took to travel repeatedly, wait for the right light, and capture each scene at its best, the work deserved a premium-quality medium. Standard print-on-demand just wouldn’t have done it justice. The luxurious feel of the hard cover, the weight of 80# paper between readers’ fingers, and the rich, vibrant color photographs place it in a different class entirely.
That’s why I chose a stately yet manageable size—an 8.5” square format that has presence on a coffee table but is still easy to handle. At $59.95, I know it’s more than some will want to spend, but I also know in my heart it’s worth it. Between production costs and Amazon’s share, direct sales help me recoup expenses more efficiently, but this has never been about chasing profit. However, I am relieved that I am gradually recouping initial production expenses.
For me, the real reward is seeing the book become a focal point in someone’s living room or reading nook—a lasting, tangible way for the photographs to be enjoyed beyond a screen. That’s what makes the effort worthwhile.
